Monk and Midori have a long history of working together to provide accessible, inclusive, reality based education to the kinky masses. And now, Midori has given Twisted Monk the exclusive privilege to share a behind the scenes look at her newest book, currently in progress, via a serialized blog post release of chapter drafts as she writes them. “Auntie Midori’s Sneak Peak Book Blog” is the delicious brain dump of Midori's ideas on everything rope. From properly using Japanese terminology to redefining conventional power dynamics, Midori has so many titillating and informative things to say, and we are thrilled to be providing a platform to share that wealth of expertise with all of you! The forthcoming book does not yet have a release date and may be significantly revised, so enjoy these unique and sparkling new bite sized bits of Midori’s knowledge as they are.
"Your Fairy God-Auntie of Kink. Exploding Expectations. Challenging Conventions.”
In 2000, Midori penned the first English instructional book on Shibari, "Seductive Art of Japanese Bondage” Little did she know that she would be paving the way to the popularity of rope today. Back then, shibari was still very much of an underground niche pleasure enjoyed by a handful of folx.
Trailblazing educator, sexologist, artist, and irritant to banality, Midori founded Rope Dojo in 2002 and ForteFemme: Women's Dominance Intensive in 2004. Dan Savage calls her the "Super Nova of Kink," while others affectionately call her Auntie Midori for her cool, tell-it-like-it-is, funny, reality-based teaching.
Midori is the Co-Director of Curriculum for Kink Informed Certification, part of Sexual Health Alliance, training therapists and helping professional to provide safe, compassionate, and inclusive service to their clients. She is the recipient of the 2022 Humanitarian Award from the American Association of Sex Educators Therapists & Counselors (AASECT) and 2022 Effing Foundation Grant, along with having honored with a Sainthood by the Sisters of Perpetual indulgence.
She is also the author of "Wild Side Sex," "Master Han's Daughter," and "Silk Threads.”
Originally from Tokyo, she immigrated as a teenager seeking freedom of self-expression and opportunities. Still, a part of her heart remains in Japan, and the ‘Eddoko' spirit runs in her veins. She lives in San Francisco with her wife and string loving cats.
